Lansing Anniversary, Couple, and Family Photographer

Their children threw them a 65th Sapphire Anniversary party and everyone down to the grandkids coordinated in the deep blue color to honor them. We broke off into families within the whole family for some stylized and more classic portraits.

After 65 years of marriage, I want to look this adorable too.

{Kyler} Baby Arrival at Metro Health Hospital, Michigan

October 17th, 2012

Look familiar? That’s me! Donny and I welcomed a healthy baby boy on October 4th at 11:30am. Of course, the cameras were in the hospital bag and Donny did a great job of capturing some of those precious first moments of our little boy, Kyler, coming into this world. The hard part about taking these […]

The hard part about taking these photos ourselves is that we aren’t in the pictures together, but I’ll take it.

Here are some more of Donny’s photography work in the hospital that day.

Needless to say, we are extremely happy and overjoyed. I have a couple newborn sessions to post so those should be up in the next few days. It’s been a little crazy here in the DonThao +1 household :).

See more on Flickr. We’re doing well and taking time off from photoshoots until around mid-to-late November, so hang tight!

I wonder what else is inside

What a cool project for the city! Temporary, but art is like that. Everything is like that. Grand Rapids now has an art contest called ArtPrize that temporarily litters the city of awesome and some not-so-awesome artwork. Either way, it gets people talking, criticizing, and critiquing what they may not have noticed before. Got to love that.

I’ve been slacking on all of the personal outings we’ve had in the past couple of months with all of this fun business stuff, so here’s a random update!

Back in mid-October, we visited our good friends in Kalamazoo, where they had tons of cool activities planned for us. The main event was heading to the shooting range! Donny had at least shot a gun before. I, on the other hand, never even touched a gun. To our surprise, our friend Ryan took us skeet shooting. Yes, shooting at moving targets.

Seriously? (He just wanted me to suffer. A long history of revenge for making him be my dance partner pre-Donny.)

Safety first. So Ryan taught us how to hold the gun. Only, he used his man-descriptions (repeating the same instructions) as a method of teaching me, which resulted in me holding the 12-gauge shotgun like a bazooka. I mean, I meant to do this…

But after the safety instructions were understood, I luckily hit a target without killing myself. Ryan forgot to mention not to wield the gun around like a maniac during a celebratory dance, because I sure did.

Donny was a natural. Here, Ryan loaded two clay pigeons without Donny knowing.

Next thing I knew, he hit them both with the only two shells in the gun. I caught his celebration dance.

[I married him for those dance moves.]

More pictures of another DonThao adventure.

Then, we moved over to target practice with a pistol.

…and I couldn’t tell you how we did because I had no idea what I was actually hitting.
