For Father’s Day this year, we ventured out to East Grand Rapids with our boys and I just took pictures of my three men hanging out. Here’s a preview of the photoshoot, inspired by the phrase ‘Modern Dad’.

{Truong} The Sweetest Family Christmas Card Photo Shoot in Lansing, Michigan

December 5th, 2012

Lisa and I first met after working on a portrait session together. I am so thankful that she keeps coming back to work with me! This time, she wanted family portraits for their 2012 Christmas card, so I met her (and her amazingly, adorable, and full-of-love) family in Lansing around the Capitol. They were so […]

They were so much fun to work with – the kids, Ethan and Emmy, got so into it that they gladly ‘set up’ some of the shots for me!

The CRAZY part is that they all love each other. 🙂 For this shot, I shouted, "Everyone, quick! Look at someone else!" And they ALL looked at Emmy. There is no mistake on who the star of the show is!

It’s not hard to have gorgeous photos like that when you have a model like my sister, Lexi! She’s expecting a baby boy this November! Congratulations, Lexi! She’s expecting a baby boy this November! Congratulations, Lexi! We already did a mini maternity session as sisters, but this was her real, own personal shoot. For this session, we wandered around downtown Grand Rapids for an offbeat maternity photoshoot. Think ‘high fashion’, urban, and model! And she’s so tiny, sometimes it blurred the line of ‘maternity shoot’ and just ‘portrait shoot’… without me getting in her way 🙂

There’s nothing like a good construction site, a beautiful face, and an awesome summer day to bring out a great session. I’ve always loved the contrast of rubble and the refined. I’ll let these photos speak for themselves.

{Lexi} UofM versus MSU Sister Mini Maternity Session: Old Town Lansing Photographer

July 19th, 2012

On a personal note, I am sharing an incredible moment with my little sister. We’re both expecting boys this Fall/Winter (6 weeks apart)! There is nothing like growing up with cousins the same age. I remember loving the trips we’d take to be around our distant cousins, but with us, we’ll at least be in […]

There is nothing like growing up with cousins the same age. I remember loving the trips we’d take to be around our distant cousins, but with us, we’ll at least be in state :).

Last weekend, we got together and took some sister maternity pictures in Old Town Lansing. Donny was the main photographer this time as I was one of the subjects. This was mainly a mini-maternity session for my sister who was a little concerned that I’d be “too pregnant” to take her pictures later. So she, her boyfriend, Donny, and I headed out in the unbearable heat for the mini session. She was at 22.5 weeks and I was almost 28 weeks. Luckily, we stayed in the shade for most of it!

If you know anything about Michigan, you know about the MSU-UofM rivalry. We playfully made that the theme for the photoshoot since Donny is a HUGE Michigan State Fan – it’s his alma mater and Kaz, my sister’s boyfriend, is a huge University of Michigan fan.

See more of the photoshoot below and on our flickr site.

We definitely had a good time.

{Rachel} Stylish Portraits in Downtown Grand Rapids

On Easter Sunday morning, we ventured downtown to meet Rachel, an exchange student to Muskegon High School from Germany, for a wonderful photoshoot. She brought along lovely outfits and was brave (it was quite chilly between the buildings of downtown Grand Rapids). We hung around Monroe Center, greeted by empty walkways and few cars in our way. Shooting photos on a Sunday is… awesome. The whole city was ours.

Rachel did a great job bringing her own ideas to the session. Of course, I could not have done it without the creativity of my husband who ran around, scouting for the perfect backdrop and stage for the next set of photos.
